Hi there! For all the young horse people out there – my name is Frank Treen, and I specialise in Equine Chiro & Muscle Manipulation.
Over the past 17 years I have treated many thousands of Thoroughbreds, Pacers, Camp Draft, Rodeo, Endurance, Appaloosa, Show Horses as well as Ponies & Miniature Horses.
My father taught me in my teens and I assisted him in his Equine Practice at his Redcliffe property in Perth during the early 1970’s. My Father – the Late Frank Treen Senior – is a Hall of Fame Jockey, and was a Master chiropractor on both Humans & Horses – his portfolio of feats is exceptional.
In the past I have simultaneously practised my Equine Manipulation as well as being the Licensed Manager of Hotels, from which I have now retired to focus primarily on my Horse Work. This allows me more time to service my 50 or so regular clients, and undertake monthly trips to regional places such as Albany, Bunbury, Wagin, Narrogin etc, where many Pacers & Gallopers are stabled.
I am based at Lark Hill – in between Mandurah & Rockingham, and I also work on many horses in Perth, Pinjarra, Baldivis, North Dandalup & other local surrounding areas.
My Method of Manipulation
Over the years I have studied countless books & footage, and closely observed horses in motion, with this and much practical experience in this field have earned an extensive knowledge of musculature.
I prefer to visit horses at the home stable – as they are relaxed and easier to manipulate as opposed to them being outside their normal stabled environment where they can quite often be noticeably tenser.
I do not go through a prolonged routine on each animal I treat, as I feel that Trainers generally don’t have time for this, and I do not see the value in massaging a horse’s shoulder muscles, when it has a problem with its hamstring, I believe in focusing my energy principally on the areas that require the attention.
It takes approximately 5 minutes to examine a Horse from its ears to its tail, and if you have the ability, you will be able to locate any knots, tight muscles or even small tears that may be troubling the horse.
I then proceed to use a rubber roller pressure of up to 30lbs or 12kgs to loosen up very tight muscles – pressure is used in accordance with the problem – some muscles may require a fraction of that pressure, and others I knead and rub out manually. If a tear is located, the horse will need rest for a short period, depending on its severity.
